Tata Punch facelift revealed with updated design, new features & turbo-petrol engine

Tata Motors has revealed the 2026 Punch facelift ahead of its scheduled launch on January 13. This marks the most extensive update for the compact SUV since its debut in 2021. The refreshed model brings noticeable design changes inspired by the Punch EV, a revised cabin with new technology, and the addition of a turbo-petrol engine to the line-up.

Visually, the updated Punch adopts a more modern and cohesive look in line with Tata’s newer models. The front end now features vertically oriented headlamp housings similar to the electric version, paired with a reworked grille and bumper. While the Punch EV uses body-coloured elements at the front, the ICE version gets a darker, blacked-out treatment that helps distinguish it.

The LED daytime running lights also receive a revised signature. Along the sides, changes are subtle, limited mainly to a new alloy wheel design, while the rear sees a bigger update with connected LED tail-lamps and a reshaped bumper. Tata is also expected to introduce new exterior colour options.

Inside, the cabin layout has been updated to mirror Tata’s newer offerings such as the Nexon and Altroz. Key highlights include a new digital instrument cluster and an updated touchscreen infotainment system, expected to be a 10.25-inch unit on higher variants. Other updates include a two-spoke steering wheel, a touch-based climate control interface and revised trim and upholstery. A 360-degree camera system is also likely to be added, although the complete feature list will be confirmed closer to launch.

One of the most notable updates is under the bonnet. For the first time, the Punch will be offered with a turbo-petrol engine. The 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol unit from the Tata Nexon is set to be introduced, though output figures and transmission options are yet to be detailed. The existing 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, available with manual and AMT gearboxes, is expected to continue, along with the petrol+CNG variant paired with a manual transmission.

In terms of positioning, the Punch facelift will continue to compete in the compact SUV segment against rivals such as the Hyundai Exter and the Citroën C3. The outgoing Punch was priced between Rs. 5.50 lakhs and Rs. 9.30 lakhs (ex-showroom) and the updated version is expected to carry a modest premium, with prices likely starting around Rs. 6 lakhs and extending to approximately Rs. 9.50 lakhs.
