Toyota Kirloskar Motor has released initial teasers for the upcoming Urban Cruiser EV, confirming that the company’s first battery-electric vehicle (BEV) for the Indian market will debut on January 19. The Urban Cruiser EV is closely related to the Maruti e Vitara, sharing its platform, components and powertrain under a badge-engineering arrangement.
Early teaser visuals indicate that the Urban Cruiser EV will adopt the same design language seen on its Maruti counterpart, blending simple lines with EV-specific elements. Exterior highlights are expected to include a closed front grille, an integrated ADAS housing, active air flaps, 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, and body-coloured door mirrors.
Inside, the cabin layout appears consistent with the e Vitara as well. The dashboard is expected to feature a dual-tone finish, vertically stacked air vents, a button-based HVAC panel, a single-pane sunroof, a two-spoke steering wheel and two digital displays – a 10.25-inch infotainment unit and a 10.1-inch driver instrument cluster.
Mechanical specifications are also expected to mirror those of the Maruti model. The Urban Cruiser EV will likely be offered with two LFP battery pack options: 48.8kWh and 61.1kWh. Power output figures are anticipated at approximately 142 HP/192.5 Nm for the smaller pack and 172 HP/192.5 Nm for the larger unit, with a claimed driving range of up to 500 km on a single charge in ideal conditions.
When it launches, the Urban Cruiser EV will enter a rapidly expanding compact-to-mid-size electric SUV segment. Key rivals will include current and upcoming models such as the VinFast VF 6, MG Windsor EV, Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6, Maruti e Vitara, Hyundai Creta Electric and Kia Carens Clavis EV, along with future EV offerings expected from Volkswagen, Skoda and Honda.
